The Ministry of Health is responding to the deteriorating epidemic situation and, from Thursday, 10 September, is introducing the mandatory wearing of face masks, with some exceptions, in all indoor areas of buildings outside housing, and in the common areas of schools. The nationwide obligation to wear protective equipment in public transport also continues to apply. Face masks are basic preventive measures not only in connection with Covid-19, but also in connection with the upcoming period of respiratory diseases.

The obligation to wear face masks applies from 10 September (full text of the extraordinary measure in Czech):

  • inside all buildings outside housing or places of accommodation (for example, a hotel room),
  • in common areas inside schools and educational facilities,
  • in public transport (city transport, intercity buses and trains, taxi services),
  • for indoor gatherings with any number of participants,

except for:

  • children under two years of age,
  • children and teaching staff in kindergartens, and children and their carers in a children’s group,
  • those in educational institutions providing one-year foreign language courses with full-time tuition in a classroom,
  • boarding schools and children’s homes, in the case of staff or the accommodated children, pupils or students,
  • institutional care or protective care educational facilities and schools established there and educational care centres providing boarding services,
  • schools established by the Ministry of Justice,
  • pupils, students and teaching staff in schools established under Section 16(9$ of the Education Act,
  • staff and children in facilities for children requiring immediate assistance,
  • people with intellectual disabilities,
  • people with an autism spectrum disorder,
  • those with a cognitive disorder or a severe alteration of their mental state, whose mental abilities or current mental state does not permit compliance with this obligation,
  • patients, when hospitalised in in-patient health care facilities, where this is necessary for the provision of health care,
  • health care professionals for as long as is strictly necessary for the provision of health care,
  • users of social services in social services facilities, such as weekly care homes, homes for the disabled, homes for the elderly and homes under special regime, and in facilities providing relief social services in residential form,
  • other cases worthy of consideration, as determined by the health or social services provider or the doctor in attendance, for movement and residence in health care and social services facilities,
  • employees and those in similar standing, including constitutional officials, while performing work in one place, if such a person works at a distance of at least 2 metres from another person,
  • those driving a public transport vehicle, when they are not in direct contact with passengers during boarding,
  • judges, assistant judges, public prosecutors, accused persons and their lawyers, participants in civil, administrative and constitutional court proceedings and their representatives, witnesses, experts, interpreters and other persons, as ruled on by the court at court proceedings,
  • those performing a copyright work (e.g. a theatre, dance or music performance),
  • lecturers,
  • those involved in the creation and production of an audio-visual work or programme,
  • moderators, editors and other persons appearing in radio, television and other programmes,
  • those performing work classified as third or fourth category for the risk factor of working under heat load,
  • customers of catering establishments when consuming food and meals, including beverages,
  • those travelling in public transport for the time strictly necessary for the consumption of food and meals, including beverages,
  • spouses during a wedding ceremony and others attending this ceremony,
  • those making a declaration that they are entering into a registered partnership together, and others present at that declaration,,
  • those present for the time strictly necessary for the taking of a portrait photograph, or photographs of newlyweds, including any joint photograph with household members and other family and friends,
  • those using indoor artificial bathing pools, such as a swimming pool, a bathing pool, a pool for infants and toddlers or a paddling pool, spa and treatment pools and saunas,
  • sportsmen or those in training, during training, exercise, contests, competition, etc. T
