ROUNDTABLE: Evaluation of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU

On Friday, 24 February 2023, another round table of the National Convention on the European Union will be held via the online platform Webex Teams and at the Liechtenstein Palace. The topic is „Evaluation of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU“. The debate will take place from 9:00 to 12:00. The topic will be discussed by representatives of the state administration, the education sector, the business sector, social partners and other invited guests. EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy is the expert guarantor of this roundtable.

In the second half of 2022, the Czech Republic will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This was a period of major challenges related to the impact of the Russian war in Ukraine as well as the ongoing legislative process in the field of green and digital policy. Now, a few weeks on, it is possible to look back at the past six months and assess how successful the Czech Republic has been in the three main dimensions of the presidency: political, organisational and communication, both in relation to the European Union and at national level.

The main areas of discussion of this roundtable are:

  1. To what extent has the Czech Republic been successful in implementing its presidency priorities?
  2. How successful was the Czech Republic in carrying out its presidency in terms of organisation?
  3. Has the Czech Republic been successful in promoting its membership of the European Union?
